Iโve been giving careful thought to the most effective way to get the gospel into as many homes as possible, and I keep coming back to one conclusion: a well-designed postcard mailing is one of the most practical and far-reaching approaches available.
The concept itself is simple, but the impact can be significant. A postcard provides a clear, concise presentation of the gospel and places it directly into the hands of individuals and families. Unlike many traditional outreach methods, it doesnโt rely on timing, availability, or accessibility. Door-to-door efforts, while valuable, often face real limitations today: gated communities, busy schedules, and a growing cultural hesitation toward unexpected visits. Even when contact is made, it can sometimes feel rushed or intrusive.
A postcard, by contrast, enters the home quietly and respectfully. It allows the recipient to engage with the message on their own terms and in their own time. They can read it immediately, set it aside and revisit it later, or even share it with someone else. It removes pressure while still presenting truth clearly. In that sense, it serves as both a seed and an open invitation that points them to further resources, such as a website or direct contact, if they want to explore more.
Originally, my plan was to personally fund and distribute these mailings, including my contact information and the Way of Truth website. But as I thought more about the scalability of this approach, it became clear that this could also serve as a meaningful outreach opportunity for local churches and individual supporters who share the same burden to see the gospel reach their communities.
There are a couple of ways others can participate in this effort. Individuals or churches can contribute financially toward a mailing campaign targeted to a specific ZIP code of their choice, allowing them to focus outreach on a particular community they feel called to reach. For those who prefer, they can simply contribute and allow me to determine the areas of greatest need and opportunity. In either case, every contribution directly supports the distribution of gospel-centered materials into real homes.
Additionally, churches have the option to request a customized version of the postcard that includes an image of their church. This provides a local connection point, helping recipients associate the message with a nearby body of believers they can visit or contact. For others, a more general versionโcentered solely on the gospel message and the Way of Truth websiteโremains available.
To help visualize the concept, Iโve provided sample designs of both versions below.

The standard format Iโm currently using is a 4ร6 postcard, which is widely accepted and cost-effective. However, there are several size options available depending on the desired visibility and budget:
- 4 ร 6 (Standard Postcard): Most economical and commonly used
- 5 ร 7 (Jumbo): Larger, more visually prominent
- 6 ร 9 (Marketing Mail): Greater space for content and design
- 6 ร 11 (EDDM โ Every Door Direct Mail): Maximum visibility and ideal for saturation mailings
Postage costs can vary slightly depending on volume, presorting, and whether standard or Every Door Direct Mail (EDDM) services are used, but typical estimates are as follows:
- 4 ร 6: ~$0.40โ$0.60 per piece
- 5 ร 7: ~$0.45โ$0.65 per piece
- 6 ร 9: ~$0.50โ$0.75 per piece
- 6 ร 11 (EDDM): ~$0.20โ$0.35 per piece
Printing costs would be additional and vary based on quantity and quality, but bulk printing significantly reduces the per-unit price.
The goal here isnโt complexity, but clarity and reach. With a relatively simple format, it becomes possible to place the message of the gospel into thousands of homes at once. Itโs a powerful form of outreach that trusts God to use His Word as people encounter it in everyday life.
If even a small percentage of recipients pause, read, and truly consider the message, the eternal impact could be profound.
If this is something youโd like to be a part of, Iโd love to connect with you. You can reach me at mtharp@wayoftruth.blog, and Iโm happy to discuss options. Of course, youโre also free to take this idea and run with it on your own. However you choose to approach it, itโs a powerful way to share the gospel and reach people right where they are.
